Oreo Balls captures the essence of breads & pastries while staying approachable for everyday cooking. The method focuses on maximizing flavor with minimal steps, using common pantry items and fresh ingredients. From the first bite you’ll notice a balance of texture and taste that feels both familiar and exciting. To build depth, we combine proper seasoning with simple techniques: gentle heat for aromatics, accurate measurements, and attention to doneness. Small details—like resting time or layering ingredients—make a noticeable difference in the final dish. This recipe is designed to be flexible. You can swap in seasonal produce, adjust spices to match your preferences, or adapt the base to suit dietary needs. The goal is to keep the spirit of the dish while letting you tailor it to your kitchen. Serving ideas are wide open: pair with a crisp salad, roasted vegetables, warm bread, or your favorite grains. Leftovers store well and often taste even better the next day as flavors settle. That makes the recipe suitable for meal prep and busy schedules. For best results, read the steps once before you start, assemble ingredients, and cook with confidence. Taste as you go, and don’t be afraid to adjust seasoning. With these principles, Oreo Balls becomes a reliable addition to your rotation—crowd-pleasing, practical, and full of flavor.
INGREDIENTS
30 (340g) regular Oreo cookies
3 tablespoons (45g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
2 to 5 tablespoons milk
8 ounces (225g) dark, semi-sweet, or white chocolate, about 1 & 1/2 cups chopped *see notes
1 teaspoon vegetable oil (optional) **see notes
PREPARATION STEPS
Preparation: Line a medium-sized baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Making the Oreo Mixture: In a large food processor, add the Oreos (filling and all!)
Pulse until the Oreos are finely ground and crumbly
Add melted butter and 2 tablespoons of milk
Pulse again until the mixture is well-moistened and sticks together without crumbling
If needed, add more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the mixture comes together.
Forming the Balls: Scoop out 1 tablespoon-sized portions and roll them into smooth balls between your hands
Place them on the parchment-lined baking sheet
If the mixture is too crumbly, blend in more milk
If too sticky, drop portions onto the sheet and chill in the freezer for 10-15 minutes before rolling.
Chilling: Once all the balls are rolled, place them in the freezer to chill for at least 15 minutes, or until firm
If not coating in chocolate right away, store the Oreo balls in the fridge until ready.
Melting the Chocolate: Melt chocolate in the microwave or on the stovetop
For the microwave, heat chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 10-second bursts, stirring in between until melted and smooth
For the stovetop, place a pot with 1 inch of water over high heat until steaming, then reduce heat to low
Place chocolate in a heat-safe bowl over the pot, stirring frequently until melted.
Dipping the Balls: If using, mix vegetable oil into the melted chocolate and let it cool slightly
Dip each Oreo ball into the melted chocolate, using a fork or dipping utensil to coat
Allow excess chocolate to drip off before placing the ball back onto the parchment-lined sheet
Top with flaky sea salt or crushed Oreo crumbs while the chocolate is still wet, or drizzle with more chocolate after setting.
Final Chill: Chill the Oreo balls in the fridge or freezer until the chocolate is set. Store in the fridge until ready to serve.
Enjoy these delightful and indulgent treats!
